Tibber
Pros
- Real hourly pricing — actually saves money if you shift high-load appliances
- Excellent app with clear consumption graphs and cost forecasts
- Works in the Netherlands with P1 smart meters out of the box
Cons
- Variable monthly bills require comfort with price uncertainty
When I was choosing an energy provider it was a crave for a good mobile app and every month payments (not the ones with quota and unexpected cost at the end of the year).
After watching a few vids on youtube I realised that the dynamic energy contract is for me.
In the Netherlands the onboarding is straightforward: Tibber reads your P1 smart meter directly, so there is no hardware to buy if your meter already has the port exposed. Switch takes two to three weeks.
Tibber replaces a flat-rate electricity contract with a live feed of the wholesale spot price. Your bill depends on when you use electricity, not just how much — which means shifting your dishwasher, EV charge, or heat pump to off-peak hours produces real savings rather than marginal ones.
The app shows an hourly price graph for the next 24 hours, a real-time power meter (via the Tibber Pulse or your smart meter’s P1 port), and a breakdown of what each appliance cost you this month. For a data-curious household it is genuinely satisfying to watch.
